Tool - Vocal Remover

One of the most common requests that I see from music educators online and in my own Inbox is how to remove vocals from existing MP3s to create “karaoke-like” backing tracks.

Up until recently, I would always recommend using Audacity and their pretty cool Plugin called Vocal Remover. The only issue with that recommendation is that sometimes it would either not appear as an option in the Plugin drop-down menu OR when it was applied, it wouldn’t do a very good job of it.

I recently ran across as AMAZING and FREE website simply called Vocal Remover - all you need to do is upload an existing audio file and it will remove the vocal track completely. I’ve tried it with several tracks on varying genres and it has always worked for me.

What makes this site one that you should immediately bookmark is that it also has several other extremely valuable tools, including:

  • Audio Speed & Pitch Changer - Changes pitch and tempo of the song by adjusting musical key and bpm sliders

  • Audio Cutter & Joiner - Free editor to trim, cut, and join any audio file online

  • Audio Recorder - use your built in microphone or USB devices to record audio directly into the cloud

  • Karaoke - record yourself singing over an existing MP3 that you’ve removed the vocal track from

  • Key & BPM finder - software figures out the key of an imported audio file as well as the BPM

All of these functions are perfect to use alongside your favorite DAW, including Soundtrap. This site perfect for all aspects of audio work that you might do with your students or for your own work. I highly recommend checking it out and supporting them if possible. Enjoy!
